AAAC AUG 2024 RUN

AAA SUNDAY 18th AUGUST 2024
Run to Hill & Son Grand Organ "Tour Talk & sound Taste"

Meet at Civic Park, Modbury at 9 am for a 9.30 am start.

Driving a scenic route to Lyndoch for our Morning Tea Stop at the Lyndoch Village Green - there is a Gazebo, Toilets and walks available at the Green and a Bakery opposite.

At approximately 11.00 am we will leave Lyndoch to travel to Tanunda and park adjacent to the Barossa Regional Gallery / Tanunda Soldiers Memorial Hall; 3 Basedow Road, Tanunda.

Our Guided tour of the historic Hill and Son Grand Organ is at 11.30 am as our guide is playing the organ at a church nearby (tour is approx. 45 - 60 minutes)

"At the session you and our group will be able to tour the intricate workings inside the organ, hear a short talk about its significant place in the history of music making in South Australia and taste it’s opulent restored sounds in a musical demonstration.  COST of the session is $7 per person - which as always is applauded as amazing value”.

The London built Organ was originally installed and used in the Adelaide Town Hall from 1877.
It went into storage after an unsuccessful makeover in 1989, but now has its new home in the Barossa after a restoration in 2014.  Standing 11 metres high, it has 3 manual keyboards and a foot pedal board, mechanical action with Barker Lever assistance, 37 speaking stops and 2,260 pipes, the longest being more than 32 feet (10 metres) in length!
We are lucky to be one of the last tours to visit the organ as the hall which is now the organs home is being renovated in September 2024 so this will be your last chance to see and hear it for at least 18 months.

After the tour we will walk next door to the Clubhouse Community Tavern for a well deserved lunch.
Half size meals are available if required.

I will require numbers for both the Organ Tour and definitely for the Lunch please asap.

See you on the day
Brian and Cynthia Davey
