30 YEAR LUNCH
30 YEAR LUNCH RUN REPORT
It was a clear sunny day as we left home just before 9 a.m. but as the morning progressed it became overcast. We picked up our friend Marlene Wigzell and headed down the Freeway, Portrush Rd and Hampstead Rd. Along Portrush Rd we were “tooted” by an elderly lady in a silver Micra who turned up Magill Rd. We pro-ceeded along Bridge Rd and Main North Rd to Carisbrooke Park where we arrived at 9.45 a.m. as the traffic increased. There was a count of 55 vehicles at this stage. The same lady who we had seen earlier arrived in a very nice green 2½ litre Riley. There was a good selection and range of vehicles and it was good to see Bruce in the only Bedford truck.
We left at 10. 55 a.m. and some had moved off before then, road conditions were not too bad and there were no significant holdups or breakdowns. Some of the points of interest were the Art Murals under the Overpass, Rosedale Corner, dummy on a tractor and Norm’s Coolies performing sheep dogs. Entering the arch at the be-ginning of Tanunda’s main street, we saw some beautiful autumn trees (anyone know what they were?). Fur-ther along the main street was a collection of historic motor bikes.
We arrived at the Barossa Weintal with many others around 11.45 and were shown to the Champagne Room where there were round tables of 10 and a tantalizing glimpse of the food as we were entering. A personal menu by every setting was a nice touch. After welcoming us all Scott said, “Lunch starts at 12.30 p.m.” Drinks were bought and people at table 1 were first to get their meal, followed smoothly by other tables around the room.
There was a great array of vegetables and tender roast meats with all the side dishes that we could need. Deli-cious desserts and cakes followed. The raffle had us all in suspense and was well handled down to the buckets.
It was a great day out for my birthday and our 46th wedding anniversary. Special thanks to Scott and family for a great day.
