RUN REPORT: Sunday 22nd June

AAAC 30th Anniversary Run to Barossa

Great weather, 4 turns, fabulous company (109 club members and families took part in this run), and brilliant organization, what else can one say about this run?
52 cars (some old, some modern and some very new), 109 people ( including a number of junior clubbers, a couple of dogs including a 'guide dog in training' gathered in the northern car park of Carisbrook Park at Elizabeth Vale on Sunday June 22nd. By the time we arrived, just after 10 o'clock a large number of run participants were already there. Lots of chatting, sharing stories and laughter set the tone for the rest of this great run.
Scott had everything organized to a tee! The signing in and distribution of our goodies bags went off quickly and smoothly. We all set off from Carisbrook for a leisurely drive north along the Main North Road bypassing Gawler and continued on to our second turn, for the drive onto Gomersal Road to-wards Tanunda. We had never travelled this road before so enjoyed the scenery. The autumn colours were stunning. Much nicer than the way we normally go!
At the end of Gomersal Road we encountered a traffic hazard; a left hand turn,- not used to this but we managed it. Proceeded under the arches of Tanunda in anticipation of our final turn for the day, a right hander into the car park. Both Tineta and I commented that we did not realize Tanunda was so big. Can't remember the last time we travelled all the way through it! Parking seemed to be only a problem if you had a BIG truck! Did anyone else see the old bikes in the main street? What about the Town Crier in full regalia (with his dog) outside one of the shops?
Once inside the Weintal Hotel we found our places in the dining room. This turned out to be a very nice room, beautifully decked out for the occasion. Scott delivered a great welcoming speech ex-plaining clearly and succinctly what we could expect for the rest of the afternoon. We eagerly await-ed our turn to sample a most sumptuous meal; one could not have asked for anything better. We obviously sat at the wrong table for service order as we were one of the last tables to be served but well worth the wait and we had lots to talk about anyway; we had Anne at our table so topics/jokes etc. were never far away. Scott's table was served first, how he planned that we don't know, howev-er, well deserved. An excellent touch was the fact that the kids received their meals first; well orga-nized Scott and the Weintal Hotel.
After our meal Scott gave an informative and amusing talk about the beginnings of the club and its first members. Scott had also organized a raffle from donations graciously received from the many business he had contacted. Even with the all the hard work done by Scott and Edith, he also personally donated to the prize pool. Over $1000 worth of prizes!! He was ably assisted by our treasurer, Russell, who even managed to pull his own ticket from the bucket.
People started drifting away about 2.30. I think we left at about 3.30. Some people even decided to 'con' Bruce out of a big truck ride. Boys, and in this case, girls, and their toys.
ONE CAN NOT WRITE A RUN REPORT ABOUT THIS RUN WITHOUT A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO SCOTT AND HIS EDITH ( WONDER ASSISTANT) FOR ORGANIZING SUCH A FABLU-LOUS EVENT! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT AND ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU NOT ONLY FROM US, BUT WE ARE CERTAIN, THAT EVERY PERSON WHO ATTENDED THIS EVENT THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THEMSELVES AND WOULD AGREE WITH OUR SENTIMENT!
