FOR SALE 1949 AC 2 litre saloon - under restoration

The AC 2 litre is a very distinctive car and was built in the old hand made tradition. Less than 1300 were built between 1947 to 1958 making them rare, even back then. The car was built in 1949 and was exported to WH Reay & Co in Belfast in March that year.
Some documentation comes with the car and it has the original engine, which has been meticulously rebuilt from the ground up. As the original body had been cut down another body shell from a 1949 car has been used in the restoration. Being built around six months apart it is more or less identical to the car’s original body shell. Where there are differences the car has been returned to its original specifications, even to the extent of having the rear mudguards fitted with fabricated rear light canisters, which was one thing that did change during the six months production.
While it is still under restoration most of the mechanical work has been done, plus upholstery of the seats (apart from the two door panels) as well as re-chroming dozens of parts - including the bumper bars. It is mainly the wooden frame that needs completing and then some assembly work as well as some welding repair to the body shell. The restoration has been well documented to date, with a 26 page ‘diary’ and a number of photo albums showing what has been achieved. Most of the hard work has been done and it basically just needs someone with the enthusiasm to complete the job.
Price: $22,000 o.n.o. This includes the car and all the spare parts, but it could be split into two lots.
